Regenerative Therapy
Regenerative Therapies such as extracorpeal shock wave therapy, laser therapy, platelet rich plasma, bone marrow aspirate, and adipose stem cells are emerging as therapies because of their ability to augment the healing of bone and tendons.
Foot and Ankle Orthopedics(FAOS) has been at the forefront of offering biologic therapy to our patients to allow a faster recovery from injuries as well as possibly avoiding surgery.
These treatments have shown benefit in investigative studies, and have shown great potential as an alternative to surgery.
The two main problems with regenerative therapies are:
- They are now many centers promising miracle cures for a variety of conditions, and it is difficult for you the patient to make an informed decision on these treatments.
- Cost: Most are not covered by insurance companies, despite well designed studies that support its efficacy. The prices for biologic therapy at FAOS are among the cheapest in the metropolitan area, and we feel these are fair prices as there is no guarantee that the biologic treatment will work on all patients. You should discuss the price with our office staff before undergoing any biologic treatment as we strive for this to be a completely transparent process.
